Motivation

January 19, 2010
Where do you find your motivation?  Not for competitions, I know how to do that. Even though I'm still amazed I ever did it for 15 weeks and never skipped a beat.  I guess for you competitors out there, where DID you find your motivation BEFORE you decided to prep for a competition? What made you want to work so hard and to be in such good shape? Is it your desire to be the best you?  Is it your desire to just be healthy? Is it your vanity?

"You're so vain... I bet you think I wrote this [blog]about you..."

Ok, exit super dork.  Seriously. What about you fit gals out there that don't do competitions, but are always in the gym and always eating right?  What's your motivation?  As you know, I have been struggling with motivation since I finished my first (yes, I say first because there will probably be a second...) competition.  I have managed to roughly 'maintain' 10lbs(ish) up from my competition, but that is very undeserved.  My lazy bones should have packed 20 on by now.

I thought I wanted to look good sooooo bad that I would just work out regularly from this point on. FAIL.  Apparently my desire to be smokin' hot and wear cute little shorts/skirts/undies (yes, undies. Do you know how bad a size 14 girl looked in some boy shorts? MUH-fin-Top) like my gallie pals Becca and Kellie lies so deep that I can't find it every day.  I realized that the first time I ever stuck to a workout plan was when I trained for my show, thanks to my bestie Becca at Structure Fitness.  So, I've been digging for some new goals.  I know I want to build a butt and trim my legs and hips some more, but the desire isn't so strong that I can just get to it every day.

However, I've realized that I am soooo scared of being that girl that lost a bunch of inches, gained some muscle, then gained all the fat back. I refuse to be that girl, and honestly don't see myself ever allowing that to happen, but I'm still frightened that it will.  I'm gonna be in a bikini come the first week of April (Orlando, FL, visiting my grandma and 2 of my bestest friends ever!!  So... I want to actually look good on the beach for the first time since I was 6 years old.  I'm trying to let that be my motivation. That's only 12 weeks away, it wouldn't involve a ridiculously strict diet, just a close eye on my calorie intake and a good workout.

So..... Guess who's finally started to P90X it? Me.  Masta Kluth.  Today is only day 1. I did chest and back, and Ab Ripper. Holy buh-jeez-louise!  I should mention that that means I feel like I worked just about EVERY muscles in  my body. This program definitely works you to the core and I've only done one day.  I felt so stupid and so weak, but that's OK. A very  humbling experience, let me tell you.  I did push-ups I've never heard of, ab workouts I've never heard of.  And to think I rocked some abs 2 1/2 months ago... I can only imagine what my abs can look like in the future if I never even worked them this hard before!!

Ok, enough rambling. Please do remember to comment on what motivates you!!!

And now, some pictures for your viewing pleasure...

Hey Jessica everyday is a battle to stay motivated. To be honest these days when life gets so busy you really have to search harder. What motivates me is seeing pictures of you guys. The girls in magazines motivate me too but you guys like Becca, April, and seeing your pictures from the comp. Reading about your journey to get where you did. You all looked amazing. It is great to see the pictures of the Oxygen girls but you never know their story. How did they look before how did they get to where they are now. So reading your blogs and hearing about your day to day is truly motivating! Keep up with P90X it is such a great program. If you go onto to the BeachBody website you will find alot of support groups. Good Luck you can do this!

AWESOME PICS!! The two of you are just SO GORGEOUS!!! GORGEOUS I SAY!!

As far as the motivation question, so far on my journey to be healthy and fit which has been going on for about 4 years now, I would say that the health aspect motivates me the most. To know I am doing everything in my power to stay on this earth as long as possible with my parents, husband and two kids and others that I love is what keeps me eating the right foods and exercising. Then a close 2nd is the vanity, having the satisfaction that I have now of looking good in my clothes that I did NOT have when I was over 200 pounds and hated myself and my body also keeps me motivated.

i think most ppl struggle with motivation at one point or another during thier journey whether the goal is just trying to lose weight, get in shape, stay in shape or train for a show. we all have felt it, and been there, stuck in the same rut. the key is getting out and staying out of it.
what helps me during prep,is thinking about reaching and exceeding my own goals. im the nut who makes mini goals for the week. what helps me off sason is sheer fear of gaining 50lbs. i HATE dieting down for a show so i try to stay around 3-5lbs from comp weight,7lbs if i can tolerate it. i also stay motivated for vanity. i like being able to try on cute clothes that i feel good in!
another motivator i have is of course staying healthy for my husband and children, but to also serve as a role model for my kids. i hope that through my healthy lifestyle and example, they will be able to exude good habbits and develop the same love of running/lifting/living healthy that i have. i cant wait to have my own workout partners when they get old enough! and also this spring/summer i am planning on getting them involded in road races and such! cant wait!

anyways, enough with my ramble, i do hope you are able to keep your motivation levels high and to aim high, reach high and dream BIG!

My motiviation actaully comes from seeing people that look better than me. Point blank. Magazines, in real life...I see a girl in the gym who looks better and it pushes me. I want to be king. LOL!!! SERIOULSY. This Holiday season was too lax and I am now paying the price. My butt has been back in gear for a few weeks now and it's already showing :) MO-TA_VAY-SHE-UNS
